Getting the Job Done
3 July 2025
"Getting the job done" is one of those phrases that seems so simple, yet it’s packed with meaning. At its heart, it’s about focus, reliability, and execution. It’s about showing up, cutting through the noise, and delivering - no excuses, no drama, just results. It’s the essence of being someone others can count on.
When I think about what it truly means to get the job done, two defining moments in my life come to mind.
The first was when I was diagnosed with colon cancer. My surgeon told me I’d be in the hospital for ten days post-surgery. I disagreed. I spent just three days in the hospital. Why? Because I was determined. I focused on what I could control - my mindset, my actions, and my recovery. I didn’t let others’ expectations define my outcome. For me, it wasn’t just about getting through it; it was about taking charge and achieving the best result possible.
The second moment came during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like so many others in my field, my business faced what seemed like an existential threat. The world shut down, and in-person training - the core of what we did - was no longer an option. Many believed it was the end. But within five days of the shutdown announcement, with no prior IT or online experience, we pivoted. We rebuilt our business as an online training company. Today, just a few years later, our clients tell us that we're the best in our field from an online training technology standpoint, and we’re appreciated for the results we achieve with them. That wasn’t luck; it was about taking action, learning fast, and staying focused on delivering results, no matter the circumstances.
What these stories have taught me is that "getting the job done" isn’t always about knowing all the answers upfront. It’s about adaptability, resilience, and the unwavering commitment to follow through. It’s about prioritizing what matters, finding solutions instead of dwelling on obstacles, and refusing to let anything stand in the way of progress.
Whether it’s overcoming a health challenge, transforming a business, or tackling the day-to-day tasks that life throws at us, the principle remains the same. Getting the job done is more than a task-oriented mindset; it’s a way of living - a way of showing up, taking responsibility, and making things happen.
